West Coast Kickers

Weekend with Rob Fowler

We all had a nice rewarding weekend 16th to 18th November 2001 with the english topinstructor Rob Fowler. There were lots of dancers from all over Finland learning new dances and enjoying old ones.

There were quite a substansial amount of dancing throughout the weekend. We started straight away Friday evening by learning three dances: rocking What's Happenin', a beginner waltz Within Easy Reach and Fame to more nostalgic tunes. Friday also let us enjoy Rob's first demo presentation.

On Saturday we start to dance at noon. After half an hour warm up the first workshop of the day started, during this workshop Rob taught an east coast swing type of coupledance. Later during the day we learned more line dances: hard rocking Mony Mony, rumba type of dance Dreamlover and a beautiful waltz Reach. As an evenings surprise number Jonas Lindström from Vännäs Variations in Sweden taught us an easy and fun contra dance Festival Fun. And as absolute climax of the evening presented Rob two of his dance numbers.

Sunday was reserved for a couple of hours of dance technique. By teaching us yet another dance, Not That Kind, Rob worked on our technique, mainly contra body flow. Workshop was efficient and definitely gave a lot to everyone that participated.
